Naomi Versus Chelsea Green: We opened Smackdown with a match, which was a welcomed change for the show. Naomi faced Chelsea Green in front of a raucous Glasgow, Scotland, crowd, with Bayley (WWE Women’s Champion) and Piper Niven in their corners. Green jumped to the top rope and delivered a massive dropkick, but Naomi refused to give up. Bayley and Niven, who face off tomorrow for the WWE Women’s Title, were in a verbal argument on the outside of the ring, diverting Green enabling Naomi to stun her with a quick roll-up for the win.
WINNER: NAOMI
Grayson Waller Effect With Grayson Waller And Austin Theory (WWE Tag Team Champions) And Johnny Gargano And Tommaso Ciampa: We had a talking segment here with Waller and Theory discussing how great of a tag team they are. After a little bit more bragging about their respective and collaborative greatness, Waller introduced Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa to the ring. DIY made their presence known, throwing some of Waller’s show props out of the ring, showing they mean business. Gargano pointed out how the last couple of weeks on Smackdown, Waller has been using Theory as a way for him himself to advance his career. We then saw some footage from last weeks match between Gargano and Theory, where Gargano went for a suicide dive, and Waller pulled Theory into it, allowing for him to pick up the win. DIY were trying to tell Austin Theory that Grayson Waller is using him to get to the top of WWE. Shortly after this, a brawl broke out between the two teams, which saw Waller again using Theory as a human shield. Expect these two teams to meet for the WWE tag titles at some point down the line.
Piper Niven Attacks Bayley (WWE Women’s Champion) And Naomi Backstage: Bayley and Naomi were celebrating Naomi’s win over Chelsea Green, when out of nowhere Piper Niven splashed both of them into a wall, showing that she will do whatever it takes to become the new WWE Women’s Champion at Clash At The Castle.
Santos Escobar Versus Apollo Crews: After Legado del Fantasma assaulted Apollo Crews before his match with Angel Garza last week, Crews looked for revenge by confronting the faction’s leader, Santos Escobar. While Escobar was finishing off Crews, Baron Corbin, who we have not seen since losing to Carmelo Hayes in the KOTR tournament, showed up to even the odds, eliminating the rest of Legado del Fantasma at ringside. Following the chaos, Crews performed a standing moonsault but was unable to get a three-count. Escobar continued to survive Crews’ offense, kicking out of every big time move Crews threw at him. Angel and Berto attempted to take out Corbin but were unsuccessful, allowing Elektra Lopez to knock Crews off the top rope, resulting in Escobar’s victory via roll-up.
WINNER: SANTOS ESCOBAR
Cody Rhodes (WWE Champion) And AJ Styles Segment: Our WWE and Smackdown world champion Cody Rhodes made his way down to the ring to a chorus of Scottish fans singing his theme song. Rhodes said that two weeks ago when he thought AJ Styles was actually going to retire, any man that ever stepped into the ring with the Phenomenal One would have been happy to help him say goodbye to professional wrestling. Rhodes then said however that all of that respect has been lost since AJ attacked him. The fans made this segment really fun, saying “Cody Rhodes, Cody Rhodes, Cody Rhodes, Cody Rhodes” in a unique tone and melody that I cannot replicate typing this report. AJ Styles then made his way to the ring, and told Cody that a superstar of Styles’ caliber does not wait in line to get a shot at the WWE Championship. Styles said that all Rhodes does is quit. He quit WWE, he quit NJPW, he quit ROH, and he started up a company and quit that too (AEW). Rhodes then said that he has never quit anything, and that all he has done throughout his career is look for something better. Rhodes proclaimed that is why he holds the most prestigious championship in all of professional wrestling, the WWE Championship. Both men looked ready for a fight in an I Quit Match for the WWE Title at Clash At The Castle.
The Bloodline Attack The Street Profits: While Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins were being interviewed backstage, they were blindsided by the Bloodlines’ Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa, making them obsolete in regards to helping even the odds for Kevin Owens against Solo Sikoa.
Nia Jax Versus Michin: Michin dominated Queen Nia Jax from the start, with Tiffany Stratton offering visitor commentary. Michin crushed Stratton, who confronted her at ringside. Michin’s attack on Stratton, however, backfired, as she was overcome in the ring by Jax with an Annihilator as the Queen of the Ring maintained her dominance.
WINNER: NIA JAX
LA Knight Is Chilling At Logan Paul’s (United States Champion) house in Puerto Rico: We saw that Logan Paul was in a Tetris tournament where he got beat by young kids that are skillful at the game. Paul then went back to his home to find LA Knight relaxing in his pool. Paul called security and told them to escort Knight out of the home. Knight told Paul that he will see him next week on Smackdown, and also told Paul to bring that United States title with him.
Carmelo Hayes Segment: We had a segment with Carmelo Hayes in the crowd determined to enter MITB, and win. He also continued to insult LA Knight and make jokes about him.
Alba Fyre And Isla Dawn Segment: Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn did not just come home to Scotland to come home, they came here to become the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Solo Sikoa Versus Kevin Owens: Kevin Owens and Solo Sikoa spent no time in assaulting each other, colliding at ringside before finally entering the ring. Before the match, Sikoa told his Wiseman, Paul Heyman, that if he lost, he would come after him. Heyman had felt his heart race after Owens landed a massive frog splash on Sikoa, but Sikoa kicked out before the three count. Owens eluded the Samoan Spike and hit Sikoa with the Stunner, but Heyman saved Sikoa by putting his feet on the bottom rope, saving his new Tribal Chief from defeat. Owens pursued Heyman, but Sikoa capitalized, nailing the Samoan Spike to secure the victory. A returning Randy Orton saved Kevin Owens from the Bloodline barrage, and looks to stand alongside Owens in taking down this new Bloodline.
WINNER: SOLO SIKOA
