WWE Raw Report For July 22nd, 2024: World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest And Gunther Engage In A Melee, Bron Breakker Named Number One Contender For Sami Zayn’s Intercontinental Championship At SummerSlam.

Gunther And Damian Priest (World Heavyweight Champion) Segment: We opened Raw this week with the Ring General Gunther making his way to the ring. Gunther said he thought about what he said to Damian Priest last week on Raw, calling him street trash and all, and does not regret a word he said. Gunther stated that the World Heavyweight Championship needs him in order for it to have credibility, status, and respect. Gunther said that Priest is like all of these people in the arena tonight, a bunch of bums. Gunther then called the entire Judgment Day worthless street trash. Gunther then gave Priest one more opportunity to come down to the ring and hand Gunther the World Heavyweight title, and in Gunther’s words “save yourself the embarrassment.” Priest did come out to the ring, but instead of handing Gunther the world title, he clobbered him in the face and a brawl ensued between champion and challenger.

Bron Breakker Versus Ilja Dragunov In A Number One Contender Match For The Intercontinental Championship At SummerSlam: After last weeks Raw in which we saw Breakker cost Dragunov his IC title match against Sami Zayn, the two met this week to see who would move on to face Zayn next. Dragunov demonstrated his capacity for power, but Breakker’s cruelty proved too much, dropping Dragunov ribs-first on the LED ring post. Dragunov was able to level Breakker with a suplex and an H-Bomb, but he was unable to take full advantage due to his rib injury sustained a while ago in the match. Dragunov was eliminated from the fight after Breakker hit him with a violent Spear, in which Dragunov hit his head on the apron (the hardest part of the ring, or so they say). Breakker won the match on a TKO, and will face Sami Zayn for the IC title at SummerSlam.

WINNER: BRON BREAKKER

Wyatt SICKS Segment: We had a Wyatt SICKS Segment. Not much was said within the VHS recording outside of saving this woman in the video (who is Nikki Cross btw), so the video is here for you guys.

Lyra Valkyria Versus Sonya Deville: This match was fine. There was a funny part where Valkyria was setting Sonya up for a Oklahoma powerbomb and Sonya wouldn’t let go of Valkyria’s leg, to which Valkyria told Sonya to “LET GO!” Valkyria appeared to have injured her ribs on a tope attempt promptly in the match that also led to a commercial break, but she persevered to execute the Oklahoma powerbomb mentioned earlier that had Deville on the ropes. Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark got into a brawl outside of the ring with Kayden Carter and Katana Chance, allowing Deville to hit Deville’s Advocate on a distracted Valkyria pick up the victory.

WINNER: SONYA DEVILLE

CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, And Seth “Freakin” Rollins Segment: We had CM Punk march down to the ring ready for a fight with Drew McIntyre. Punk proclaimed that he is medically cleared to compete, and tonight, he wants to bloody McIntyre with his pink shoes on. McIntyre came out and it looked like the fight was about to be on, until McIntyre had second thoughts and backed out. Punk went to go after him, but was swarmed by officials and security. McIntyre taunted Punk by having him look at the bracelet with his wife AJ Lee and his dog Larry’s name on it. Raw GM Adam Pearce then cam out out to tell both Punk and McIntyre that the match between them at SummerSlam is on, however, if either one of these two fight tonight, then that match is off, and one of them will be indefinietely suspended. Pearce then announced that this match between Punk and McIntyre cannot have a normal referee, and instead it needs a “Freakin” referee. Seth “Freakin” Rollins then came out, dancing and laughing at both men. Rollins announced that at SummerSlam, he will be the special guest referee for CM Punk Versus Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam.

Karrion Kross And Authors Of Pain Versus Xavier Woods, Otis, And Akira Tozawa: This match was fine. In their Six-Man Tag Team Match, Xavier Woods relied on new allies Otis and Akira Tozawa to defeat The Final Testament. Kross imposed a beating on Tozawa, even though it was his birthday (Happy Birthday Tozawa). Otis got the hot tag and was destroying everyone in his hometown of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Regardless of some solid effort and determination from Woods’ tag team partners, Kross conquered Woods with the Final Prayer and gained victory for the Final Testament.

WINNERS: KARRION KROSS AND AUTHORS OF PAIN

Wyatt SICKS And Alpha Academy Segment: Post match, Chad Gable and the Creed Brothers looked to destroy Otis after Otis refused to rejoin the Alpha Academy, only to be stopped by Uncle Howdy and the Wyatt SICKS, who left Gable laying with a Sister Abigail.

Pete Dunne Versus “Big” Bronson Reed: This match never got going as Sheamus came out of nowhere and took out both Dunne and Reed. Sheamus and Dunne are looking to be set on a collision course in the not too distant future.

WINNER: NO CONTEST

Rhea Ripley, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio, and Liv Morgan (Women’s World Champion) Segment: Rhea Ripley dragged Dominik out to the ring and then proceeded to call out Liv Morgan. Morgan did come out, and taunted Ripley about how guys like Dom go for women that look like Liv, and not like Ripley. Dominik then berated Morgan, calling her an idiot and how she has ruined his life. Morgan went to go cry, while Ripley licked Dom Dom’s face. I don’t buy any of this though, expect Dom to cost Ripley the Women’s World title at SummerSlam, on purpose.

Zelina Vega Versus Zoey Stark: Vega went into this match with an injured arm, which showed toughness but also was a burden throughout the match for her. Shayna Baszler and Sonya Deville attempted to intervene, but they were confronted by Lyra Valkyria, Katana Chance, and Kayden Carter, who emerged to the ring to help Vega. This enabled Vega to employ her arm brace to clock Stark, prior to delivering Code Red to win the hard-fought bout.

WINNER: ZELINA VEGA

Gunther Vignette: We had a Gunther vignette in which he showcased his greatness. Gunther criticized all of the prior World Heavyweight Champions. He called Seth Rollins a crowd pleaser. He said that Drew McIntyre was so obsessed with CM Punk that he degraded the world title. And when it came to Damian Priest, Gunther said that Priest used the easy way cashing in a briefcase, and is not a real world champion. Gunther said that at SummerSlam, he will bring honor, prestige, and respect to the World Heavyweight Championship.

Sami Zayn (Intercontinental Champion) And Jey Uso Versus Finn Balor And JD McDonagh (World Tag Team Champions): After receiving an assault in the catering area of the arena by Carlito and JD McDonagh, Jey Uso joined up with Intercontinental Champion and former Bloodline member Sami Zayn to face World Tag Team Champions Finn Balor and JD McDonagh. This was our main event of the evening. The moment that Zayn was about to hit McDonagh with a Helluva Kick, Carlito and “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio intervened to stop him. Uso and Zayn fought back, hammering McDonagh with a 1-D, but Balor breached the pin attempt at the last possible second. As the match drew to a close, Zayn delivered a Helluva Kick to McDonagh, followed by a massive Uso Splash for the win over the world tag team champs. Post match, a wild Bron Breakker appeared like a video game villain spawns, and speared Zayn into next week. Based on this main event, we can infer that Breakker will most likely win the IC title, and that will allow Zayn to team up with Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, and Roman Reigns to form an OG Bloodline to go up against Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu.

WINNERS: SAMI ZAYN (INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION) AND JEY USO
