WWE Raw Report For August 5th, 2024: World Heavyweight Champion Gunther Puts His Title On The Line Against Randy Orton At Bash In Berlin, Damian Priest And Rhea Ripley Take It To The “New” Judgment Day.

Gunther (World Heavyweight Champion) And Randy Orton Segment: We kicked off the Raw after SummerSlam with the new World Heavyweight Champion, The Ring General, Gunther. Gunther talked about how for months this world title has been looked at as secondary in regard to everything else happening on Raw. Gunther promised to bring honor and prestige to the World Championship by defending it as much as possible. Gunther said that if we thought what he did with the Intercontinental title was historic, what he will do with the World Heavyweight title will be iconic. Gunther then challenged any Superstar in the back to come out here and challenge him for a title match, saying that nothing will catch him off guard. Well, Randy Orton, a SmackDown wrestler (the draft just doesn’t matter anymore lol) came out on Raw to confront Gunther. Orton said that while Gunther theoretically beat him back at King and Queen of the Ring, he really didn’t, as one of Orton’s shoulders was up. Orton then challenged Gunther to a World Heavyweight Championship match later this month at Bash in Berlin, to which Gunther accepted.

Sheamus Versus Ludwig Kaiser: This was a good match. Kaiser targeted Sheamus’ leg for a good while, but the Celtic Warrior was resilient, and punished Kaiser anyway. Kaiser employed clever strategies to take out Sheamus, pretending injury to lure him into an assault. Kaiser additionally attempted to use Sheamus’ Beats of the Bodhran towards him, but Sheamus managed to turn things around. Just as Sheamus was about to put Kaiser away, Pete Dunne appeared intent on attempting to blast Sheamus with a Shillelagh, but his plan went awry, as Sheamus kneed him in the face onto the announcer’s table. Regardless of Dunne’s antics, Sheamus scored a Brogue Kick and got the victory.

WINNER: SHEAMUS

Damian Priest And “New” Judgment Day Segment: With Finn Balor costing him the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, Damian Priest was in no mood to talk, as he called Balor out to the ring for a fight. Balor then popped up on one half of the LED titantron, and told Priest that he brought all of this upon himself. Balor proclaimed that the Judgment Day was originally meant to have no leaders, and that everyone was to be equal. But that all changed when Damian Priest won the world title at Wrestlemania 40, according to Balor. Balor then told Priest about last year when Balor lost to Seth “Freakin” Rollins at SummerSlam for the world title, and Priest told him to grow up. Well, Balor said that two nights ago, he did grow up, and decided to screw Priest for Priest costing him (on accident) the world title last year. Balor then said that when he attacks Priest, he won’t see it coming, and introduced the “New” Judgment Day, consisting of Finn Balor and JD McDonagh (World Tag Team Champions), Liv Morgan (Women’s World Champion), “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio, and Carlito.

Lyra Valkyria Versus Shayna Baszler: This was ok, but a short match. Just as the match began, Sonya Deville and Zoey Stark struck Valkyria. Following the match, Damage CTRL encountered Deville, Stark, and Baszler, retaining the ring against them.

WINNER: NO CONTEST

CM Punk, Seth “Freakin” Rollins, Drew McIntyre, And “Big” Bronson Reed Segment: CM Punk came out to the ring, shouted out a UFC fighter for their win on Saturday, and was ready for a fight. Punk said that even though he lost at SummerSlam, he is still breathing and talking, which has got to get under the skin of Drew McIntyre. Punk then called out McIntyre for a fight, but was instead greeted by Seth “Freakin” Rollins, the same man who Punk GTS’d at SummerSlam. Rollins then got in the ring and was ready to fight Punk, but before the two could come to blows McIntyre showed up in the crowd. McIntyre then showed Punk the bracelet with his wife and dog’s name on it, and he went to pursue McIntyre. Rollins however was then attacked by “Big” Bronson Reed, who proceeded to to give Rollins six consecutive Tsunami Splashes, leaving Rollins with internal bleeding.

New Day Versus Authors Of Pain: This was a decent match. It was cool to see Kofi Kingston back in action this week. Kross made his presence felt when he pushed Woods off the top of the turnbuckle as he was preparing to perform an elbow drop. Odyssey Jones (WHO HAS FINALLY DEBUTED ON RAW AFTER TWO YEARS STRAIGHT OF BEING DRAFTED TO RAW AND NEVER APPEARING!) helped the New Day by taking out Kross, allowing Woods to win with a fruit roll-up pin. Jones easily eliminated The Final Testament following the match.

WINNERS: NEW DAY

A-Town Down Under Versus Awesome Truth: This match was fun. Theory and Waller (who are also SmackDown wrestlers, ah who cares at this point lol) were beating down and gaining heat on R-Truth for awhile. Miz then got the hot tag, and was on fire, taking down both Waller and Theory. As Miz was about to fly high from the top rope, Truth tagged in, and in the process was the one to take the losing fall for his team.

WINNERS: A-TOWN DOWN UNDER

Damian Priest Versus JD McDonagh (World Tag Team Champion): This was just a beating. Priest beat the hell out of McDonagh, throwing him all over the place, and just destroying this guy. While McDonagh did get some offense, it was shot down quickly by Priest. Priest’s demolition of McDonagh was thwarted by the appearance of Finn Balor, who assaulted Priest after the match. Rhea Ripley foiled the “New” Judgment Day’s endeavors to take down Priest, leaving Ripley and Priest on top.

WINNER: NO CONTEST

Roman Reigns SummerSlam Return Recap: We got a recap of Roman Reigns’ return at SummerSlam, where he took out Solo Sikoa. Reigns will be on SmackDown later this week for the first time in four months.

Iyo Sky Versus Sonya Deville: Following Sonya Deville, Shayna Baszler, and Zoey Stark annihilating Dakota Kai backstage, Iyo Sky stepped in for the injured Kai to face Deville. Sane and Sky executed an incredible combination of an Insane Elbow from Sane and a Moon Sault from Sky, knocking everyone out. Sky then performed an Over the Moon Sault on Deville to get the win and gain some revenge for DAMAGE CTRL.

WINNER: IYO SKY

WYATT SICKS Versus American Made (Chad Gable And The Creed Brothers): This was the WYATT SICKS’ debut here on Raw. I liked the presentation with their entrance, as well as how they rushed the ring to fight Gable and the Creeds. Chad Gable and The Creed Brothers contributed up a solid performance, landing three moon saults on Gacy in a matter of seconds. Rowan and Gacy combined to powerbomb Lumis on top of Gable and the Creeds outside the ring. Rowan paid tribute to his Wyatt Family brothers by eliminating Gable, but The Creed Brothers prevailed to keep the match alive. Ultimately, Rowan, Gacy, and Lumis together defeated Gable with a massive splash to pick up the win.

WINNERS: WYATT SICKS
